Africa's largest e-commerce platform, Jumia, to deliver goods via drones

Jumia Technologies AG and Zipline have entered into a partnership to deliver goods by drone to remote parts of Ghana. Zipline is currently delivering blood, vaccines and other medical equipment via drones. The company is active in Ghana, Rwanda, Nigeria, the US and Japan.

The agreement will combine Zipline's automated delivery system with Jumia's distribution network operating in 11 African countries to deliver goods such as electronics, cosmetics and clothing to rural and remote areas, which account for about 27% of Jumia's sales.

Jumia and Zipline said in a statement that after a successful pilot programme and testing in Ghana, they plan to expand to Côte d'Ivoire and Nigeria.
