Production of the Russian vaccine against coronavirus Sputnik V in Egypt may start as early as this spring
This was announced by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Egypt Georgy Borisenko:

"At the moment, the transfer of technology is practically completed. Egyptian company Minapharm is already making sample batches of the vaccine, which are then thoroughly tested at the Russian Gamaleya Research Center. We hope that regular production will begin in the spring".

He explained that Minapharm production will initially be aimed at meeting the needs of the local market, and then there may be supplies to other countries in Africa.

Last year, the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) signed an agreement with Minapharm to localize the production of the Russian vaccine Sputnik V in Egypt. Since then, the parties have been actively working on the implementation of the agreement, which provides for the production in Egypt of about 40 million doses of the vaccine annually.

Ambassador Borisenko also said that trade between Russia and Egypt in 2021 has increased by 10% and has reached $5 billion.
