On 8 December, Acting Rector of the Russian State University of Geology and Exploration (
MGRI),
Yuri Panov, met with
Igor Morozov, member of the Federation Council, Chairman of the Coordination Committee for Economic Cooperation with African Countries, to discuss the prospects for cooperation.
MGRI is the backbone university of the Coordinating Committee in the implementation of educational programmes.
The key topics of the meeting were the training of specialists for work at Russian enterprises in Africa, assistance in the selection of applicants from African countries to study at
MGRI, organization of joint online and offline events in the field of Earth sciences, attraction on a competitive basis of children from the African continent to participate in the GEOARTEC project, with
AFROCOM as a partner.
Since 2016, the
MGRI International Young Geologists' Shift GEOARTEC project has been implemented at the Artek International Children's Centre, which trains young geologists in geological field and field research methods, safety rules during expeditions, and also provides an introduction to environmental issues.
As a result of the meeting between
AFROCOM and
MGRI representatives, a cooperation agreement is planned to be signed.
