New e-commerce platform to connect 22 African countries
The Kenya Trade Network Agency has launched the Africa e-trade platform for the exchange of commercial documents such as certificates of origin and phytosanitary certificates, which will help speed up and increase the reliability of trade document processing.
The platform has been in a pilot phase for about 18 months in Kenya, Morocco, Tunisia, Cameroon and Senegal, and will now be integrated in the 22 countries that are members of the African Alliance for Electronic Commerce (AAEC).
The platform will ease the cost of doing business and also help traders share trade information as the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) takes shape.
KenTrade operates an online cargo clearing system that provides all players with real-time information on the location of their shipments during transit.
